: The state government on Thursday informed the high court that the legal department is examining the order of the

Supreme Court

disallowing former chief ministers of

Uttar Pradesh

from retaining their official bungalows.

The division bench of the court of chief justice Pradeep Nandrajog and G R Moolchandani was hearing a PIL by Milap Chand Dandiya and Vijay Bhandari challenging the Rajasthan Ministers’ Salaries (Amendment) Act, 2017, which entitles former chief ministers for a government bungalow for life in the state.

The petition was filed during the tenure of previous chief minister Vasundhara Raje. While bungalow No. 8 was the official residence of Rajasthan’s chief minister, Raje on return to power in 2013, had chosen to continue to live in bungalow No. 13, which was allotted to her in her capacity as the Leader of Opposition in 2008.

The bungalow was renovated with enormous public money.

Later the BJP government passed the Act under which the former CMs were made eligible for a government bungalow and staff equivalent to a cabinet minister and chief minister retained the same.
