GURUGRAM: The chief information commissioner (CIC) of
has directed Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (
), earlier known as
, to act against illegal constructions and extension of shops in Huda sectors within three months. Holding such violation responsible for traffic snarls in Huda sectors, the CIC has directed the authority to issue notices and take steps for immediate removal of the encroachments.
The move comes following a complaint filed by RTI activist Aseem Takyar where he highlighted that though government agencies take action against encroachers in private colonies, they turn a blind eye towards the defaulters in their own sectors.
Takyar had filed RTI petition on February 12, 2018 before the HSVP, requesting them to provide the list shops, booths and shop-cum-office (SCO) which had their shutters facing the roads and had violated zoning norms in the Huda sectors. According to the Huda Act, shops and booths in Huda sectors cannot open facing the roads. However, Takyar pointed out that not only were the shops opening towards the road but many shopkeepers had illegally extended their premises.
However, despite several reminders, HSVP did not reply to Takyar’s RTI and the the plea went to the CIC. Following CIC’s direction, HSVP submitted a reply before the commission in December 2018 that highlighted that violation by the shops, booths and SCO were found in sectors 4, 7, 7 (extension), 9, 9A, 10, 10A, 14, 15 Part-I & Part-II, 17, 22, 23, 23A, Jail Road and Old Jail Complex.
“These violations are causing traffic jams. Authority should issue notices to ensure that pedestrians do not suffer while crossing these roads,” Takyar said.
Following the report, CIC Yash Pal Singhal directed the chief administrator of HSVP to initiate steps for removing zoning violations within their jurisdiction.
