: Properties of the erstwhile Bhopal nawab are once again under the scanner. A report has been submitted the government investigating into surplus agriculture land in Bhopal, Sehore and Raisen districts of
linked to the last nawab of Bhopal, Hamidullah Khan, here on Thursday.
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan grandmother was the daughter of the last nawab of Bhopal.
The urban properties belonging to the nawab of Bhopal sold or unsold are already under the scanner. Union ministry of home affairs, office of the custodian of enemy property for India (CEPI) has vested control of all movable and immovable properties of the nawab of Bhopal. The ‘vesting certificate’ was issued on February 24, 2015.
The government officials for now are not linking the two but the timing of the investigation has once again raised eyebrows over the nawab ’s properties and its mutation.
The survey had been initiated to find out whether there was land in ownership in excess of the agricultural land ceiling Act, said a senior government official seeking anonymity.
As per provisions of the act, anyone who is holding more than prescribed limit has to submit a return to the competent authority, he added.
The land spread across five villages in Bhopal was an estimated to be around 800 acre. Land in Chiklod and Rizwan Bagh (in Raisen) was an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 acre. Sehore properties were estimated to be around 2,000 acre, said sources.
“We are examining whether it is more than prescribed limits. If not so appropriate action would be taken,” he added.
Urban land dubbed as personal property of the last nawab of Bhopal, nawab Hamidullah Khan is already being investigated. In a move in 2016 union government’s custodian of enemy properties of India (CEPI) vested control of properties belong to the nawab ’s daughter Abida Sultan, who had migrated to Pakistan.
The CEPI cited her to be the heir apparent. The matter is under litigation in the Madhya Pradesh high court. Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan Pataudi has got a stay from the MPHC.
